Fundraiser For At-Risk Youth Planned At Turner Field

Launch, Expose, Advise, Direct will hold its annual L.E.A.D. Weekend fundraising event sponsored in part by Georgia’s Own Credit Union and the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field Dec. 1 and 2.

L.E.A.D. is an instructional play program for inner city youth. Launched in 2007 by C.J. Stewart and his wife Kelli, L.E.A.D. provides at-risk, inner-city youth with access to higher education and civic engagement through baseball. The organization offers player development, academic and civic resources to members.

“We are honored to once again be a sponsor of L.E.A.D. weekend,” said Allison Kimbrell, vice president of marketing for Georgia’s Own Credit Union. “It is a privilege for us to be able to recognize the extraordinary young men who make up the L.E.A.D. Ambassador program.”

The weekend will consist of two events a Celebrity Baseball Clinic and a “Dinner with Champions” Awards Celebration. The Clinic on Dec. 1 is a professional baseball experience held on Turner Field and run by celebrity instructors including Dexter Fowler (Colorado Rockies) and Jason Heyward (Atlanta Braves). “Dinner with Champions” on Dec. 2 will be held at the prestigious 755 Delta Sky Lounge at Turner Field with legendary, hall of fame Coach Vince Dooley as the keynote speaker.

The celebration recognizes individuals and organizations that support L.E.A.D. This year’s Legacy Builder honoree is Charlotte Dixon of the Mary Alice Bennett Brown Foundation. Community Partner honorees are Charlie Finch of the Lovett School, Rendell Jackson of the Atlanta Public Schools Office of Athletics, Greg and Robby Miller of the Miller brothers and Russell Wrenn of the Westminster Schools. There will also be a special presentation by Dexter Fowler of the Colorado Rockies and the Fowler family. In addition, this celebration will include the induction of the 2013 L.E.A.D. Ambassador class.
