New Dolls Are ‘Positively Perfect’ For Multicultural Girls

Each holiday season, girls across the nation dream for their favorite doll under the Christmas tree. Just in time for this year’s Christmas lists, families will be able to pick up Dr. Lisa Williams’ line of Positively Perfect dolls, which focus on building self-confidence in multicultural girls.

A mother of two, author, former professor and CEO of World of Entertainment, Publishing and Inspiration, “Dr. Lisa,” as she’s affectionately called, has always wanted to inspire the best in young people. After producing a successful series of books, available at Walmart, she was approached by the retailer with the idea of producing a line of multicultural dolls. She took on the challenge with a passion to create something that would positively influence diverse communities.

“My experience with young people, and adults alike, suggest that the root of most challenges stem from low self-esteem,” says Williams. “I was happy that Walmart understood this need and joined with World of EPI to help make sure these dolls are available in the marketplace.”
With a dream and concept in mind, Positively Perfect was born. It took about a year for the line to come to fruition and hit the shelves.

Williams had a clear vision and wanted to ensure that each face was unique. From curly to straight hair and butter cream to chocolate skin, the dolls were designed to showcase the beauty of diversity.

“For decades, dolls have had fairly generic features and sculpts,” she said. “I didn’t want to simply take an existing face sculpt and paint it tan or brown and call it authentic.”

Williams’ vision of dolls created to uplift multicultural girls did not end there. She infused positive affirmations and backstories aimed at giving young girls something to aspire to. Each doll represents positive statements, such as “I am proud,” “I am smart,” or “I am beautiful.”
For example, in the “Positively Perfect” world, baby doll Dayna loves to learn and she is an ‘A’ student. Her favorite subjects are science, math and reading. After studying and finishing her homework she and her friend Brianna go watch their friend Maria play sports. The Positively Perfect logo represents transformation, as Williams believes that children transform into positive, smart and beautiful young people.

Walmart, along with Walmart.com, is the first to carry the exclusive line of dolls. Williams also has visited several Walmart stores to share her story and witness firsthand the appreciation for her product. “This has been an amazing experience,” she said. “These dolls are the result of generations of parents, grandparents, and friends wanting to provide positive play for children.”

The Positively Perfect dolls are just one example of Walmart’s broad assortment of toys that help fulfill kids’ wish lists this Christmas. Parents can get a head start on their shopping for these dolls with the retailer’s layaway program, which is available for all toys $15 and up. Positively Perfect donates a portion of the proceeds from the dolls to a national charity that supports children through the Toy Industry Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Toy Industry Association.
