M.L. King Takes on Dunwoody in Thursday Night High School Football Contest

Tonight’s Thursday night football showdown will feature a battle of the unbeaten against the winless. M.L. King High School’s football team is off to a 5-0 start, despite having its head coach resign just a few days before the start of the season. They’ll take on Dunwoody, a team that is 0-5 to start the season. The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. on WSB-TV.

King’s longtime head coach Michael Carson made national news when he resigned after the parent of one of the team’s players made public sexual photos he sent. Carson has reportedly decided to open his own one-year prep academy so that he can coach there.

Despite his absence, the Tigers are showing no signs of slowing down.

“Our start is really not a surprise,” interim coach Robert Freeman said. “Coach Carson is a great coach, and he prepared us as a staff to be able to handle anything and everything.”

Freeman, a Clark Atlanta graduate, was the team’s defensive backs coach before Carson resigned his post. He played two years in the NFL.The game is live on WSB-TV/Me-TV 2.2, which can be found on the following cable systems by channel number: Comcast 248 (Metro Atlanta, Calhoun, Rome), Charter 126 (Metro Atlanta, Athens), Windstream 871 (Dahlonega, Hiawassee, Cornelia, Commerce), ETC 190 (Ellijay, Cherokee, Pickens, Gilmer, Fannin), Plantation 601 (Green, Putnam) and Knology 168 (West Point).
