Debut Cast Will Return To ‘Deliver’ Hilarious Fun To Atlanta Audiences

By Special to the Daily World
Following a highly successful debut, “Motherhood the Musical” returns to the 14th Street Playhouse March 16 – May 20.

Four Atlanta actors will humorously capture every stage of motherhood including the changes that happen to the body after pregnancy and nursing, succumbing to driving a minivan and becoming a grandma for the very first time.

Declared as “Engaging, hilarious and touching” by Variety, “Motherhood the Musical” is produced by GFour Productions, the team who has successfully brought “Menopause The Musical” to multiple international markets and every major market in the United States.

Local actors will return to play the roles of four women who share their insights on being moms – the blessings and stresses.  Ingrid Cole will return as Brooke, the lawyer, who works too much and barely sees her kids. Jewel Lucien plays Tasha, a single mom struggling to balance work, her family and her divorce.  Mary Kathryn Kaye will return as Barb, an overworked, underpaid, stressed-out mother of five, and Lisa Manuli plays Amy, a soon-to-be first-time mom. Christy Baggett will play the understudy role.  All actors are members of the professional union Actors’ Equity Association.

“Motherhood the Musical” is from author and songwriter Sue Fabisch, a mother who understands that sometimes the best way to cope with the craziness of motherhood is to share the experience with other moms.  The 20-song musical includes 18 original tunes like the hilarious Billboard Top 10 comedy hit, “The Kids Are Finally Asleep;” the rousing call-to-shoppers, “Costco Queen;” and the tender ballad,  “I’m Danny’s Mom.”

The show is directed and choreographed by Broadway’s Lisa Shriver and award-winner Johnny Rodgers supplies music direction and supervision, arrangements and orchestrations.

The production is currently on a 65-city tour in Australia.  In addition to Atlanta, the 2012 production will “arrive” in Huntsville, Ala.; Chicago; Mesa, Ariz.; and Providence, R.I.

Although it is a national production, the 90-minute musical features a local cast in each city.

“‘Motherhood the Musical’ is the rare show that audiences really relate to – they actually can see themselves on stage through the cast’s portrayal of common experiences all moms have,” says Kathi Glist, “Motherhood the Musical” producer and co-founder of GFour Productions. “From being pregnant to succumbing to driving a minivan, from facing an empty nest to anxiously awaiting one’s first grandchild, the musical really covers the entire wonderful, crazy journey of being a mom.  Anyone who has ever been a parent – fathers as well as mothers – can relate to this show.”

“Motherhood the Musical” will play March 16 – May 20 with shows on Tuesdays – Saturdays at 8 p.m., and matinees on Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m.
