By Special to the Daily World
SportSouth recently announced the network will televise 65 Atlanta Hawks games throughout the 2011-12 NBA season.

The Hawks season tips off on SportSouth with the season opener Dec. 27 at 7:30 p.m. at the New Jersey Nets.  SportSouth will call Atlanta’s first home game of the year, Dec. 28, when the Hawks host the division-rival Washington Wizards at 7:30 p.m.

SportSouth’s Hawks package will include all three games against the team’s 2010-11 NBA Playoffs first-round foe Orlando Magic, three games against the defending Eastern Conference Champion Miami Heat and the Hawks’ only game against the NBA Champion Dallas Mavericks in the regular-season finale on April 26.

In addition, the network will also televise this year’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. holiday game scheduled for Monday, Jan. 16, against the Toronto Raptors at 4 p.m.

In all, SportSouth will have 32 games from Philips Arena and 33 road contests.

Former Atlanta Hawks star and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer Dominique Wilkins returns for his fourth straight season as the Hawks game analyst, with play-by-play announcer Bob Rathbun entering his 16th season as the voice of the Hawks.
