G-CAPP Appoints New President/CEO

By Special to the Daily World
The Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Board of Directors recently announced that Vikki Millender-Morrow has been named the new president and CEO.

Millender-Morrow, currently president and CEO of Girls Inc. of Greater Atlanta,  succeeds Michele Ozumba, who, after 10 years as president, left in April for a position in San Francisco.

Millender-Morrow has been at the helm of Girls Inc. since 2008 and also has a 20-year corporate career with AT&T (BellSouth).  She will assume her role as G-CAPP’s chief executive on July 7.

“Vikki not only has a stellar reputation as president and CEO of Girls Inc. but brings a successful 20-year career from the business sector as well. That was extremely attractive to us an organization.  Equally important, she clearly understands the issues around teen pregnancy and shares G-CAPP’s passion and vision for these issues. She has earned a reputation as a respected, multi-dimensional leader and is the right CEO at the right time to lead, expand and build on G-CAPP’s successes as Georgia’s only organization  that’s focused solely on teen pregnancy prevention,” said Jane Fonda, founder, and Cheryl Franklin, M.D., chair, in a joint statement.

Making a “real” difference in the lives of girls is the passion that pulled at Morrow’s heartstrings for years.  As a committed advocate for women and girls’ issues, she served on numerous boards and clocked countless community service hours striving to make a positive impact in the lives of girls.

Millender-Morrow was recognized by the 2011 Trumpet Awards “High Tea with High Heels” which spotlights women who have made their mark by breaking barriers of others.  She was selected as a 2010 “Inspiring Woman” by the Atlanta Dream (WNBA Team) and as a 2008 nominee for the “Leadership Character Award for Integrity” by the Turknett Leadership Group.

She graduated with a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She also earned a master’s in public and private management from Birmingham Southern College.  She is a member of the 2009 Class of Leadership Atlanta and has attended the Harvard Business School 2009 Strategic Perspectives in Nonprofit Management Program.

Millender-Morrow  made Atlanta her home 20 years ago.  She is married to Derrick Morrow and is the  mother of two sons, Kendall and Austin Thomas.
