If finding and eating great BBQ is on your list of things to do this summer, be sure to catch “Spirit in the Smoke — The Religion of BBQ” on AIB. BBQ is not only a cherished and hotly debated southern tradition, to some it is a spiritual quest. In this quirky and heartfelt special presentation from AIB, viewers get to ride shotgun with David Gelin and his dog, Buddy, as they follow the trail of hickory smoke to community church BBQ dinners, festivals and speak to chefs divinely inspired by BBQ. “Spirit in the Smoke — The Religion of BBQ” airs for two weeks. It began Wednesday, June 8 at 5:30 p.m., with encore presentations on Saturday and Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
David Howard Gelin is a BBQ aficionado and author of “BBQ Joints, Stories and Secret Recipes from the BBQ Belt.” He was born in New York and raised outside of Washington, D.C. Fate, college and mild winters brought him to the South. Along with his aptly named Buddy, an animal rescue dog slated for that big doghouse in the sky, they are most at home on the open road.
AIB can be viewed on Comcast Channel 5, AT&T Uverse Channel 6 and Charter Communications (Smyrna, Roswell) Channel 22. Programming can also be viewed on Video on Demand at aibtv.com and the streaming network AIBNet.tv.
