Radio 90.1 WABE News has been honored with several journalism awards in 2011, including four prestigious Edward R. Murrow Awards, three Associated Press Awards and five Associated Press Honorable Mentions.
Recognized for Best Feature Reporting, Best Specialized Reporting, Hard News Reporting, Use of Sound and more, the WABE Newsroom has achieved measurable success as a leader in local Atlanta journalism.
In response to these numerous accolades, WABE News Director Michael Fields said, “These awards are a tribute to a great team. WABE News hopes to continue to make a difference in our community — by offering intelligent, in-depth coverage of issues that matter to the people of the Atlanta metro area.”
WABE’s success with Edward R. Murrow and Associated Press Awards is an indication of the increasingly vital contribution that WABE News is making to local journalism. In recent years, when many other news operations have been downsizing, WABE has more than doubled its news staff. Atlanta’s audience has responded in an overwhelmingly positive manner. In 2011, WABE has experienced record-breaking membership drives and tremendous ratings growth. According to Arbitron, WABE’s average weekly audience has grown over 23 percent within the last year.
WABE is a National Public Radio affiliate and is part of the Atlanta Educational Telecommunications Collaborative Inc.
