The Concerned Black Clergy (CBC), Georgia Community Action Association (GCAA) and the Fulton Atlanta Community Action Authority (FACAA) celebrated the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. recently.

On April 4, public officials, community servants, ministers and citizens from all walks of life shared his memory with U.S. Rep. John Lewis while accepting a challenge to walk and act collectively to ensure the common good for all Americans.  The event took place at the M.L. King, Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change (Freedom Hall).

Lewis was a close friend and associate of King, who knew his heart and intention to make America a harmonious place for all to live.

Lewis inspired us to work together, one with another, and motivated us to actualize the dream of our most influential civil rights leader in all of America’s history.

The observance included a speech by Lewis, with his own recommendations on how we should address poverty through the legislative process. He also answered questions from the audience. Facilitators for the event included Dr. William “Sonny” Walker; state Rep. Roger Bruce; Rev. Dr. Richard Cobble, president, Concerned Black Clergy; Jimmie Samuel, president, GCAA; and Dr. Joyce J. Dorsey, president & CEO, FACAA.

“Poverty is such an issue that has not been discussed,” said Dr. Dorsey.  Ministers, social service leaders and community leaders were in attendance as the issue of poverty was discussed.

“We feel encouraged to join together as the struggle for equality, justice and human dignity continues,” she added.
