Xernona Clayton Receives Detroit NAACP Honor

Xernona Clayton, president and CEO of the Trumpet Awards Foundation Inc. will receive the James Weldon Johnson Lifetime Achievement Award by the Detroit Branch NAACP. The Detroit Branch NAACP Dinner is the largest event of its kind in the country, attended by over 12,000 people.

Rev. Dr. Wendell Anthony, president of the branch, said, “It is because of Ms. Clayton’s continuous work and mega success that we chose to honor her.” He further stated, “Your founding the Trumpet Awards serves as a clarion call to highlight the significant contributions of those who continue to serve our nation.”

Previous honorees include President Bill Clinton, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, General Colin Powell, Sen. Barack Obama, Harry Belafonte, Justice Thurgood Marshall and others.

This prestigious event, scheduled for May 1, will be held at the Cobo Convention Center and marks the 56th anniversary of the historic Fight for Freedom Dinner.
