Representative Lewis was a close friend and colleague of Dr. M.L. King, Jr. who walked shoulder-to-shoulder with him and understood his intention to create a fair and just America for all people. Representative Lewis will inspire us to take action and to continue to actualize the dream of one of the most influential civil rights leaders in all of America’s history. Facilitators for the event will include Dr. William “Sonny” Walker; State Representative Roger Bruce; Rev. Dr. Richard Cobble, President, Concerned Black Clergy; Mr. Jimmie Samuel, President, GCAA; and Dr. Joyce J. Dorsey, President and CEO, FACAA.
“Poverty is such an issue that has not been discussed,” states Dr. Dorsey. “We’ve asked Congressman John Lewis to come address the ministers, social service leaders and community leaders as we address the issue of poverty. This is a widespread attempt to address the issues, and it is our goal to motivate and mobilize.” All are invited to come and share this occasion, and feel encouraged to join together as the struggle for equality, justice and human dignity continues.
