SAVANNAH – Services for Troy Anthony Davis, who was executed by the state of Georgia on Sept. 21, were held recently. A memorial service was held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30, at the New Life Apostolic Temple, 2120 West Bay St., Savannah, Ga., 31415, and a "Celebration of Life," was held 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, at Jonesville Baptist Church, 5201 Montgomery St.
Sidney A. Jones and Campbell Funeral Services, 124 West Park Ave., Savannah, 31401, handled the flower memorials.
In lieu of flowers, donations were asked to be sent to the I AM TROY DAVIS fund at the Capitol City Bank, P.O. Box 2105, Savannah, Ga. 31407.
A "Letter to the Editor" from Mildred E. Warren sent to the Atlanta Daily World indicated that Georgia should be boycotted as a result of the execution of Troy Davis. She wrote: "No one should consider themselves safe or protected by law in the State of Georgia, particularly if they are poor, because if they should be arrested, tried and convicted, they could not be guaranteed justice. My church denomination is making plans to hold a convention there (in Georgia) in 2013. Thousands of delegates from around the world are expected to attend the convention in Atlanta. I intend to voice my opposition to that decision and if the conference is held there, I will not attend and will not spend another dollar in your state again."
Copies of this letter were also sent to Congressman Hank Johnson of Georgia; Rev. Al Sharpton of MSNBC, and Dr. W. C. Glover, AME Church, the pastor of this concerned citizen.
Producer Michael Moore, has also expressed his objections to the execution of Troy Davis and has urged a boycott of Georgia.
