Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) will host the 2016 Southeast Youth of the Year celebration on Thursday, June 23 at the Georgia Aquarium. The annual event celebrates remarkable teens from across the region, and it is on track to raise more than $1 million to support the youth organization’s efforts this year.

Guests will hear speeches from the inspiring Southeast Region Youth of the Year candidates, who will discuss their Club Experience, vision for America’s youth, and personal brand. The Southeast Region Youth of the Year will receive a scholarship of $10,000, renewable up to four years, and move on to the National Youth of the Year Celebration in Washington, D.C. this September. The National Youth of the Year receives an additional $100,000 scholarship and the chance to meet the president of the United States.

Turner Sports Sportscaster Kristen Ledlow will serve as the master of ceremonies. Top tier executives in the Atlanta area will be present, including leaders from The Coca-Cola Company, Bank of America, Merrill Lynch, Merrill Edge and Always Believing Foundation, and many other large local businesses.

Founded in 1947 as BGCA’s premier youth recognition program, Youth of the Year (YouthOfTheYear.org) recognizes outstanding contributions to a member’s family, school, community and Boys & Girls Club, as well as overcoming personal challenges and obstacles. The recognition program encourages Club members to reach their full potential by achieving academic success, leading healthy lifestyles and contributing to their communities.
