When President Obama won a stunningly lopsided reelection campaign over Republican nominee Mitt Romney in 2012, an exasperated Fox News “anchor” Bill O’Reilly uttered his concern over the future of white civilization. It was a stunning admittance on air that received no significant rebuke from the populace nor his network, if any.
So it comes as no surprise that O’Reilly would inaccurately blame the Black Lives Matter movement for the rise in violent crime in America, even though there is no evidence to back his claim.
“How Black Lives Matter is killing Americans: That is the subject of tonight’s talking points memo,” O’Reilly began Wednesday’s show.
According to the International Business Times:
O’Reilly pointed to reports of rising murder rates in some of the country’s largest cities and blamed the increase on what some have called the “Ferguson effect,” a theory that heightened scrutiny on police actions after the 2014 shooting of an unarmed 18-year-old black man in Ferguson, Missouri, has made police officers reluctant to pursue crimes. While many news outlets have reported that there is little evidence of a new crime wave around the country and that the “Ferguson effect” is not necessarily real, conservatives like O’Reilly have continued to discuss it.
He said the real problem is a “violent subculture” in African-American communities that has been encouraged by the Black Lives Matter movement.
“The media will not spotlight that much of the violent crime in America is being committed right now by young black men,” O’Reilly said. “Blacks of all ages commit homicide at a rate of eight times higher than whites and Hispanics combined. Conclusion: There is a violent subculture in the African-American community that should be exposed and confronted.”
“Enter the Black Lives Matter crew, which roams around the country promoting a false narrative that American police officers are actively hunting down and killing blacks,” he added.
