Chicago State University (CSU) recently announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Edwin Clark University located in the Delta State of Nigeria. This agreement is the first of its kind for Edwin Clark, CSU being the first U.S. institution among others worldwide in which they have an agreement.
The groundbreaking agreement opens exploration of mutual interest for students and faculty in teaching, research and service. Initial areas of collaboration include an opportunity for Edwin Clark students to study aboard at Chicago State University.
“This collaboration supports our mission. We are committed to providing access to higher education for students of diverse backgrounds and educational needs.   I am confident that our students and faculty will have a positive educational experience,” said Dr. Paula Carney, Assistant Provost of Graduate and Professional Studies, CSU.
Nigeria is Africa’s most populated country with over 170 million people, making it the continent’s largest economy. Oil has been its’ dominate source of income however, the country has seen growth in agriculture, telecommunications, and services according to the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency.
“Agreements like this with an international university allow our institution to expand its cultural perspective further enriching the lives of all constituents across campus,” said Kemi Onajole, Director of International Programs at Chicago State University.
The agreement comes at a time that the university has seen an increase in its’ international student population of nearly 400 students. This is an increase from last year.
