South Loop Dance Club Being Replaced

The Shrine nightclub, located at 2109 S. Wabash has announced that it will be closing its doors permanently at its current location. A popular R&B venue for the Urban crowd, the night spot played host to some of the city’s best concerts and dance parties.
Open since 2009, the Shrine saw some of the best artists in the country play its crowd including Taleb Kweli, Amel Larrieux and Ashanti amongst many other memorable performances. The Shrine also hosted one of the best house music nights in the city for years, known as Bang on Sunday nights, hosted by Terry Hunter and Greg Winfield.
The club’s owners are expected to appear in court Monday, Feb. 22nd before the Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protections due to complaints from neighborhood residents. The location has been slated for redevelopment according to media reports. It has been reported that Draper and Kramer is building a seven-story hotel and 19-story condo development.
Even thought hey are closing it will rock til the end. Mya and Busta Rhymes are scheduled to perform the 27th & 28th of this month. The  Shrine’s doors will remain open through the end of March. No word as of yet if the club will relocate to another location.
