With the heightened interest around the impact that lead contamination can have on communities and the recent lead crisis in Flint, the Wayne County Department of Health, Veterans and Community Wellness has launched a hotline to address resident concerns.
The hotline number is (734) 727-7237. Beginning today it will be staffed by a Wayne County specialist Monday-Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm. After hours and on the weekend a message can be left and a specialist will return the call within one business day.
The hotline will allow Wayne County residents to get information on services provided by the Department of Health, Veterans and Community Wellness if they are concerned about their children or family members coming in contact with lead that may exist someplace in their home.
Wayne County residents will also learn more about Lead Safe Wayne County, a grant funded program that assists Wayne County homeowners (outside of Detroit) with making their homes lead safe.
Additionally, the hotline will help answer general questions that residents of Flint might have regarding information about the lead crisis there.
“We recognize the enormous task and the effort that the Genesee County Health Department is experiencing through this lead ordeal,” said Dr. Mouhanad Hammami, Director of the Wayne County Department of Health, Veterans and Community Wellness. “This hotline will help provide additional information for Flint residents to help our colleagues at Genesee County and to inform Wayne County residents of programs we provide that may address any lead concerns they have.,”
