On February 6, 2016, the outlier group The Return of Kings, the pro-rape advocates that view women as ‘the enemy’ will host two meetings in the Chicago area as part of their International Tribal Meetup Day. With 165 meetings scheduled to take place in 43 countries worldwide, all at 8 pm local time; the group’s leader, Daryush Roosh Valizadeh is a proponent of “legal rape”.

Taking place on the Northside of Chicago in Rogers Park and the suburb of Hazel Crest, his followers are “men of every race and background” excluding gay and transsexual men and referred to as “tribesman” according to his blog. The purpose of the group is to form a support network amongst men who have contempt for women but spend copious amounts of time pursuing them. The tribal setting provides a forum to “come out” about their struggles with dating women.

Based on the most recent information on citidata.com, there were 1,459 rapes reported in Chicago in 2011. According to Compstat, which is a weekly report put out by the Chicago Police Department, there have been 102 reported rapes in Chicago in the past 28 days compared to 92 for the same time period in 2015.

Having examined stories about rape written by mainstream journalists, Valizadeh concluded that most rape victims were being assaulted by men they already knew instead of strangers. On his blog, he states “I learned that if a man and a woman both drink at a party and have sex, she was in all likelihood raped since she could not give full legal consent. This made me confused because a woman who drinks and has sex is not responsible for her actions, but if the same woman gets into a car and drives it into someone else, causing a loss of life, she would be prosecuted and sent to jail. I couldn’t find an explanation for this inconsistency.”

I thought about this problem and am sure I have the solution: make rape legal if done on private property,” says Daryush Valizadeh. The author of two books on dating, Valizadeh espouses that “…by teaching men not to rape, what we have actually done is teach women not to care about being raped, not to protect themselves from easily preventable acts and not to take responsibility for their actions.”

Nationally, one out of every six women will be the victim of an attempt or completed rape according to The Rape Crisis Center. Broken down by race, 18.8% of victims are Black, 24.4% are mixed race, 14.6% are Hispanic and 17.7% are white and two-thirds know the offenders.

Sanu Johnson, a local student said “I’m really careful when going out to parties with my male friends and I won’t go alone. I try to make sure there are at least two other females with me and that we stick together. If I have a drink, I take it with me if I leave the table.” When asked about the Return of Kings meeting, she responded “It’s disgusting, but I’m more concerned about the women and especially the young girls glued to their smartphones on public transportation who aren’t paying attention to who’s standing or sitting next to them. They can easily become a target.”
