Lecture/Community Conversation
JAN. 16—Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2040 Washington Rd., South Hills, will host its 2nd annual Lecture and Community Conversation on Race and Religion from 2-8:30 p.m. at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, 616 N. Highland Ave., East Liberty. Charles Marsh, the keynote presenter, will speak on “Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s Journey to Reality.” There will also be breakout sessions and an interfaith panel discussion on the topic, “Faith Communities, Race, and Justice: What Can We Do?” This event is free and open to the public. Kelso Lecture
JAN. 17—Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, the East End Cooperative Ministry and Morningside COGIC, 5173 Dearborn St., Garfield, will host the annual Kelso Lecture in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. at 3:30 p.m. at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, 616 N. Highland Ave., East Liberty. University of Pittsburgh professor David J. Garrow will speak on the theme, “The Political Evolution of MLK.” The Kelso Lecture is a celebration of Dr. King’s accomplishments and hopes for the future. This event is free and open to the public. MLK Jr. Prayer Breakfast/Program
JAN. 18—The Allegheny County Bar Association’s Homer S. Brown Division will host the 17th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast and Program at 7:30 a.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 2001 Wylie Ave., Hill District. The event will include a breakfast buffet, followed by a program that includes the presentation of the 2016 Drum Major for Justice award to Mufuka Martin and the Distinguished Service award to Marlene Ellis. Friendship Luncheon
JAN. 30—New Birth Baptist Church, 406 W. Grant St., Duquesne, will host its Friendship Luncheon from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The last Saturday of the month, members of New Birth invite the community from the tri-state area to a delicious lunch, a clothing giveaway for the needy and an enlightening discussion. Music in a Great Space
