Concert Headliner Mayer Hawthorne to Support Homeless Youth
Mayer Hawthorne, a Michigan native, and his band Tuxedo will bring their act to the Fillmore in Detroit on February 1st for the first time in years. Start from Here – a national organization that provides opportunities for homeless youth – is presenting the concert, along with a day of activities in Detroit to raise funds for Ruth Ellis Center, which provides short-term residential safe spaces and support services for runaway, homeless and at-risk LGBTQ youth.
Last spring, Mayer Hawthorne teamed up with Jake One to release their debut album Tuxedo, which peaked at number two on the Billboard Charts Top Heatseekers Album in 2015.
They’ll be joined by Grammy-nominee Mary Lambert, who has done groundbreaking work advocating for the LGBT community. Neon Hitch spent her youth as a gypsy; today she’s a Billboard-charting artist whose next album is slated for release in mid-2016. Local talent Jena Irene and Britney Stoney will open the show.
Detroit-raised FOX News correspondent and comedian Katherine Timpf will host.
