Taraji P. Henson is having a career year. The Academy Award nominee won a Golden Globe for the Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Drama for her role as Cookie Lyon on “Empire.”
The actress kept it light by handing out cookies on her walk to the stage to accept her award, then warned “You’re going to have to wait” as tele-prompters asked her to wrap up her speech. She thanked her family, longtime agent and publicist, show producers and co-workers, leaving Terrence Howard for last by saying she was nothing without him and adding that Cookie is nothing without Lucious.

Denzel Washington became just the third African-American actor to accept the prestigious Cecil B Demille award, an award that honors an outstanding career. Morgan Freeman won in 2012 and Sidney Poitier won in 1982.
No surprises that Tom Hanks introduced him for the the award, calling Washington “a peer and equal of all the greatest legends of our craft.” The two played in the Academy Award-winning movie Philadelphia where Hanks remarked it was akin to going to “film school” working on the set with Washington.
