In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday, The 2016 King Holiday Observance Kick-Off and Reception will take place at The King Center’s Freedom Hall Atrium on Friday, Jan. 8 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The kick-off reception will serve as the opening event for the annual King Holiday Observance.  It is free and open to the public. The community-at-large is welcomed to join invited guests including;  dignitaries, local consulates, elected officials, college and university presidents, corporate and business leaders, local activists, pastors, emerging youth leaders and the entertainment community  in a celebration honoring the legacy of Dr. King.

The KHO events continue Sunday, Jan. 10 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The King Center invites the community to join King Family members and special guest, author Mr. Kit Cummings for the signing of his new book, Peace Behind the Wire: A Nonviolent Resolution. The book is a personal reflection of the author’s experience behind the walls of one of the most dangerous maximum security prisons in Georgia. The results of this monumental social endeavor added steam to a movement of nonviolence, school reform, church intervention, and other changes in prisons within the borders of the United States as well as in countries like South Africa, Mexico, Honduras, and Ukraine.
