SAN BERNADINO, Calif. — Police and media have confirmed that 14 people have been slaughtered and 17 people are injured — many very critically — after a man and his wife stormed into a Christmas party and opened fire randomly using assault weapons.
The San Bernadino police and sheriff’s departments and members of the ATF and FBI were all in a consensus, according to CNN and FOX News, that this was a premeditated and highly-coordinated attack as the husband and wife team, Syed Farook, 28, and Tashfeen Malik, 27, were responsible for the Wednesday morning attack according to San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan.
There was wide speculation that there were three shooters, but police are now confident there were only two.were cloaked in military fatigues and bullet-proof vests. The couple busted in on unsuspecting people at the conference center of the Inland Regional Center, a facility that services individuals with developmental disabilities, at around 2 p.m. local time. The county’s Department of Public Health were in the throes of their holiday party, the media stated.
The reason police believe this was a high-sophisticated and coordinated attack is because of what the married couple were wearing and the fact that they dropped off their infant daughter off at the baby’s grandmother’s home before driving to the Christmas party to initiate the bloody carnage.
After emptying their clips, the the suspects fled in a black SUV and mysteriously and inexplicably returned home. Later the SUV was confronted by a phalanx of local and state police officers and, after a shootout, the two perpetrators of this horrific crime were killed.
SWAT teams and a bomb squad arrived at the couple’s home. The bomb squad reportedly found a package on the second floor of the building that they deemed “not normal.”
Four patients are being treated at Loma Linda University Medical Center, with more expected to arrive. Eight victims are being treated at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, according to an anonymous employee.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Syed Farook, was an environmental specialist who was born in the U.S., and had worked for the San Bernardino County health department for five years.
Tashfeen Malik was Farook’s wife, says Hussam Ayloush of the Council on American-Islamic Relations. Malik was born in Pakistan and lived in Saudi Arabia before she married Farook about two years ago.
