Atlanta City Council invites public to meetings about about PARKatlanta meters

ATLANTA – Some metro commuters view the on-street parking management company PARKatlanta as a money-grubbing parasite that vacuums away people’s hard earned money at the parking meters. Defenders say the perception problems are a matter of miscommunication and misunderstanding.
The last straw may have came (and simmering public outrage built to a crescendo) when the media reported that a woman who showed proof that she paid for her on-street parking at a meter was still slapped with a ticket on her windshield because of computer problems.
One thing is undeniable and incontrovertible: PARKatlanta, at the very least, is suffering from soured public relations. The city of Atlanta yearns to rectify the problem one way or another.
The Transportation Committee of the Atlanta City Council is inviting the public to a series of town hall meetings to hear from the public in person and/or online regarding the on-street parking management contract currently held by PARKatlanta.
The first meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, December 2, 2015, 6:30 p.m., at Atlanta City Hall, Council Chamber, 55 Trinity Avenue, S.W. (This meeting will be broadcast live on City Channel 26).
The meeting will also be streamed on the City of Atlanta’s website at www.atlantaga.gov (Click on the ATL City Channel icon in the middle of the webpage and click on the words: “Watch Channel 26 Live” located on the left of the screen.
Citizens, particularly ones who look askance at PARKatlanta operations, are encouraged to submit their questions and concerns in advance or during the first meeting and five days after using various electronic modes:

  1. Via email to atlantacouncil@atlantaga.gov
  2. Via Twitter to @ATLCouncil and use the hashtag: #parkatlanta2016
  3. Via Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/atlantacitycouncil
  4. By calling the Atlanta City Council Office of Communications at 404-330-6823 or 404-330-6775. Please leave your name.

Additional community meetings are scheduled as follows:

  • Thursday, December 10, 2015, 6:30 p.m., at Inman Middle School, 774 Virginia Avenue, N.E.
  • Final Meeting: Date, Time & Location To Be Announced

The Reed Administration is considering issuing a request for proposals (RFP) for companies that want the city’s business in 2016 when Park Atlanta’s contract expires. The city could also take over the on-street parking management operation.
