ATLANTA — He didn’t have a football in his hands. But Atlanta Falcons superstar wide receiver Roddy White didn’t need one to score points with the local community when he and his Keep the Faith Foundation handed out hundreds of turkeys and other food items at the Grove Park Recreation Center on Monday morning.
One of the greatest receivers in Falcons history and four-time Pro Bowl player used his giant hands on this day to bestow some love to fans in the form of holiday blessings when he bought the turkeys from Walmart. The Atlanta City Council returned the love by officially honoring the gridiron great before hundreds of grateful beneficiaries. He was joined by members of Dunbar Elementary School football team, volunteers of his Keep the Faith Foundation, The Center of Hope, and Amy Phuong, the commissioner of the Atlanta Parks and Recreation, among other City Hall officials. The event was hosted and facilitated by the City of Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Constituent Services.

“My aunt always told me it takes a village to raise a child,” White said. “And that’s what we have to do as a community.
“It’s exciting to be a part of this,” he added, “It’s fun handing out turkeys and it’s for a good cause. I’m wishing everyone a happy Thanksgiving and holiday season.”

Quincy Springs, the general manager of the historic West Side Village Walmart concurred with White’s sentiments when he said “it’s an important time — important that you be thankful that you have — and that you have it to share with others.”
Michael Sterling, the director of the Atlanta Workforce Development Agency kept things in perspective when he helped remind us “anytime that you can give back, especially to our senior citizens who have done so much for us, it’s a good time and a great day for the city of Atlanta.”
“It’s an exciting day to join Roddy White and the Keep the Faith Foundation and support the Grove Park community,” added Phoung, “It’s a wonderful holiday occasion and we look forward to doing more as we rise up with Atlanta.”
