ATLANTA — Shanti Das and Marlon Nichols presented the finale edition of ATL Live on the Park Season 6 at the beautiful Park Tavern at Piedmont Park. Headlined by R&B superstar Angie Stone, guests also enjoyed performances by Rahbi Raw and Willie Hynn. Invited media had the opportunity to attend a private Q&A with the R&B superstar. During the Q&A, Stone discussed the development of her seventh studio album, how she got her start in the music-industry as a member of the first-female hip-hop group, The Sequence and gave her thoughts on today’s rap scene and the importance of the female voice in hip-hop. She also discussed the importance of black men and her admiration of them, hence her popular single, “Brotha,” an ode to the black man.
ATL Live on the Park season 6 finale was hosted by Taiye “The Wild Afrikan” Samuel and sponsored by Gentleman Jack, Korbel Champagne and MAJIC 107.5. Guests also enjoyed sounds by DJ Mars and a performance by Quinn and the Jukebox.
The night kicked-off with a vibrant performance from Soul and Rock artist,
Rahbi Raw. Rahbi’s energy was contagious as he hit splits, twirls, spins and occasionally leaped into the audience, all while effortlessly singing compositions from his new project, “Hello World”. Atlanta-based artist, Willie Hynn took the stage next, opening with his single, “Strawberry Lights.” He kept the crowd engaged with an eclectic performance featuring a unique blend of hip-hop lyrics and soulful hooks. As an ode to the Atlanta culture, he performed a cover of Chuck Inglish “Freaknik 96,” taking the crowd back to the spring break’s spent dancing in the streets of the AUC (Atlanta University Center).
After Willie Hynn’s high-powered performance, Wild Afrikan took to the stage and compared the artist and his band’s energy to hip-hop legends, Outkast. Finally, the moment everyone had been waiting for, soul singer and hip-hop pioneer, Angie Stone hit the stage. The songstress opened her set with her classic single, “Brotha,” an uplifting ode to the black man. She also debuted “Magnet” from her new album, “Dream.” As a tribute to her days as a member of the first female hip-hop group, The Sequence, Stone performed a rap number that thrilled the crowd. She wrapped up her set with the hit single, “Wish I Didn’t Miss You.”
