A large group of ladies gathered on Sept. 12 to honor Reverend June Jeffries, founder of Sister/Sista Ministries, and to celebrate that ministry’s 15 years of empowering, encouraging, training and equipping women ministers. The celebration was held at Oasis Ministries Inc. in West Mifflin, Pa.
During a beautiful program, 15 orange roses were presented to Rev. Jeffries. Orange is her favorite color. Reverend Jeffries is the pastor of New Life Baptist Church in Apollo, Pa., where she also teaches adult Sunday School and Bible Study classes. Guests enjoyed soloist Kara Pennybaker and praise and worship led by Rev. Amelia Harris and Rev. LaWana Simmons. Reverend Jeffries spoke about the 15-year journey of Sister/Sista Ministries and compared it to the many detours she had to take to arrive at Oasis Ministries.
“Don’t throw up your hands, keep following the signs, endure the detours, and know that God is taking you somewhere.”
After a delightful meal, Pastor Karen Garland preached the Word of God, speaking from the Book of Matthew and focused on maintaining personal standards. In March of 2006, Pastor Garland founded Zion Apostolic Assembly of McKeesport. She has been employed for more than 15 years at Sojourner House Inc. as a counselor and assistant clinical supervisor. In 2008, Pastor Garland received the “50 Women of Excellence Award” from the New Pittsburgh Courier.
