LaShawn D. Gary, Detroit artist, releases debut album

LaShawn D. GaryLaShawn D. Gary is a man of many talents — musician, composer, producer, arranger — and he is minister of music at Oak Grove AME Church. He is also a man with a mission — to bring tranquility and inspiration to a turbulent world.
So it comes as no surprise that his introductory album is titled “Love, Peace & Praise.”
If you find yourself stressed out, or maybe you just got through watching the news, this is music that will chill you right out. It’s not pure jazz, nor is it straight R&B or traditional gospel. It’s music to relax to and lyrics to contemplate.
Gary comes from the heart with hope of his music warming hearts. God gave him gifts and gladly shares them, as well as offer praise to the Creator. Song titles like “Serenity,” “All We Need is Love,” “Now is the Time” and “Lord You’re All I Need” say it all.
But Gary, who has a Bachelor of Science in Instrumental Music from Southern University A&M College, is hardly a newcomer to the music world. In one capacity or another he has worked with an array of notables in the industry, including gospel superstar Yolanda Adams and L.J. Reynolds. He was also assistant choir director for the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History’s 50th Anniversary celebration production, “Oh Freedom,” that featured famed songstress Patti Austin and another artist from Detroit, the multitalented Greg Phillinganes.
That’s just a small part of the LaShawn D. Gary story.
Gary is ably accompanied on the “Love, Peace and Praise” excursion by many outstanding musicians and singers, including Ron Otis, Roderick Harper, LaDell Abrams, Al Turner, Pamela Chambers, Jo’rel Quinn, Romel D. Alexander, Kenny Mac, LaRue Hill, Dodi Alexander, LaMont Rashawn Zeno, John Owens III, Tobias Smith, Rodney Crutcher, Kendall Spivey, Nigel L. Gary, Richard A. McCall Sr., James Charles Jr., Phillip May, Tamen Hade, Aziz Michell, Antwan McHenry, Tangela Key, Robert Brumfield, Melanie Rutherford, Niyah L. Gary, Roland Guerin, Andre L. Spivey II, Dwayne J. Gary and Brandon Parker.
