ATLANTA – The National Minority Prostate Cancer Association will host its “Check It & Correct It” weekend in September to raise awareness about the deadly disease that affects African-American men at a disproportionate rate.
The NMPCA (https://natlmpca.org), founded by Dr. James B. Hall, a prostate cancer survivor himself, has set aside Sept. 25 -26 for a golf tournament, gala and walk in Atlanta. Funds raised from these activities will go to establish mobile screening and testing prostate cancer centers.
Palmer Williams, Jr., the actor/singer/writer/director from Tyler Perry’s “Love Thy Neighbor” fame, is a celebrity co-host for the events. The partners include: The International Association of Black Firefighters Association, the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement, Communications Workers of America, Wells Fargo and Kroger.
“I’m a survivor and I know what it’s like to learn that you have prostate cancer,” said Dr. Hall. “I also know how important it is for all men to get a check up to prevent the cancer. I’m hoping this weekend will raise awareness throughout the community that we have to fight this together.”
