Carhartt right at home with new flagship Midtown store

_DSC1271It is no secret that Detroit was once considered the pinnacle of a blue-collar city.
Carhartt is hoping to restore some of the pride of associated with hard work with its 20th retail location and first store here in Detroit.
“Today is a remarkable day in Carhartt’s history as we celebrate the opening of our flagship store in Detroit where we were established 126 years ago,” said Mark Valade, Carhartt CEO and chairman of the board. “We are proud to be a part of such a hard-working, industrious community.”
The new flagship store is located at 5800 Cass Avenue, is the former home of Cass Motor Sales and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The store will occupy the first floor of the three-story, 51,000-square foot building and will carry more than 540 of the most popular styles of men’s, women’s and kids’ apparel, footwear and accessories.
Plans for the remainder of the building has yet to be finalized.
The Michigan-based company believes Detroit’s future will include the need for blue–collar workers just as much today as it did over 100 years ago.
“We looked for a lot of years to really find the right space and figure out the right time to open a store in Detroit,” said Linda Hubbard, Carhartt’s president and chief operating officer. “This is the flagship store for Carhartt. This is our hometown store.”
