Atlanta native Robert Champion’s hazing assailant Celeb Jackson pleaded no contest to being a participant in the beating of the Florida A&M University band member that lead to Champion’s death, WSB reported.
Jackson, 26, was to be sentenced on Tuesday, July 21, however, sentencing has been delayed since there was a mix-up in transportation from the Department of Corrections.
Jackson faces up to 35 years in prison.
Champion, a native of the Atlanta suburb of Decatur, Ga., was beaten by multiple fellow FAMU band members aboard the team bus in 2013 following a game. He suffered multiple internal injuries and died a short time later on the bus.
More than a dozen of Champion’s former band mates were convicted in his death. Most were given light sentences or were put on probation.
