Music impresario Sean “Diddy” Combs will not face felony charges after he allegedly got into a fight with a football assistant coach on the campus of the University of California-Los Angeles last month.
The Los Angeles District Attorney Spokesperson Ricardo Santiago told the media that prosecutors have decline to press felony charges against the mogul after he was arrested at UCLA on three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of making terroristic threats and one count of battery after he got into an altercation with the coach of his son, Justin Combs. The father was accused of swinging a kettlebell at the coach, which is considered a deadly weapon.
The case has now been turned over to the Los Angeles city attorney’s office for misdemeanor filing consideration.
Combs’ attorney, Mark Geragos, said he was grateful for the decision.
“We are thankful that the district attorney rejected felony charges in this matter,” said Geragos, a CNN analyst. “This case never should have been part of the criminal justice system to begin with.”
Combs allegedly charged into the coach’s office after his son told him the coach was demeaning him relentlessly and a scuffle ensued.
A representative for Combs earlier called accounts of the incident “wholly inaccurate.”
“Any actions taken by Mr. Combs were solely defensive in nature to protect himself and his son,” the representative said in a statement. “We are confident that once the true facts are revealed, the case will be dismissed.”
