Of the four NBA Finals losses, the 6-game setback to the Golden State Warriors a week ago probably hurt the worst. You could see the pain plastered all over his face after putting up historic numbers — averaging nearly a triple double with 38 points, 13 rebounds and 9 assists per game — and still coming up short because of devastating injuries to two All-Stars, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love, not to mention the rebounding demon Anderson Varajao.
But after about a week of nursing his emotional wounds, LBJ took to social media to speak to the many fans who supported the team throughout their exciting excursion to the championship series.
“It hurt to lose. I’ve been in a funk lately, but this … this is what motivates me to do what I do,” he wrote. “How can I ever be down when I know my kids and my fans have my back? Being back home and back with my fans is everything that I dreamed of. Thank you for an incredible season. I’m not satisfied … I’m not happy with the way things turned out … I PROMISE to get better.‪#‎StriveForGreatness ‪#‎ILoveTheseKids ‪#‎GodBlessOurFans.”
The Cavaliers will once again be favored to win the Eastern Conference and return to the 2016 NBA Finals — especially if the aforementioned Irving, Love and Varajao are able to stay healthy down the stretch. If so, there’s no reason to believe the Cavs won’t hoist the trophy this time.
