When we think of the children of Chicago, it is important to acknowledge that they hold the key to the future success of our city. We have a specific sense of responsibility in ensuring that our children-the future of Chicago, have the tools they will need to flourish in our society once they come of age. And through entrepreneurship, the Chicago Defender team is ready to lend a helping hand.
On Saturday, June 6th from 11AM-2PM, the Chicago Defender will be taking part in the national event and is set to host “Lemonade Day” to give the community a chance to support our young entrepreneurs. Participating children will have a chance to experience the process of selling a product from making their own lemonade, all the way to selling the product to their customers. It is an opportunity that will prove valuable as they carry that entrepreneurial spirit with them throughout their lives.
“Lemonade Day is the perfect opportunity for Our City’s youngest to learn the basics of entrepreneurship and savings. Getting an early start on these skills can help lead to a lifetime of financial empowerment for all participants.” said City Treasurer Kurt Summers.
In addition to “Lemonade Day”, those who attend will be also be able to enjoy a free Health Fair courtesy of the Chicago Defender. Provident Hospital and the Illinois Department of Public Health will be on hand to provide attendees with the opportunity to learn how to prevent Strokes, Heart Disease and Diabetes. There will be seminars for Asthma, Smoking Cessation, and Breast Cancer Awareness. Free screenings for diabetes, blood pressure, and confidential Cholesterol, Hep C, and HIV testing will also be available. Children under the age of 18 will be able to receive free dental exams and teeth cleaning procedures. And for those who are looking to get their exercise fix in during this fun-filled event, you will have the opportunity to join a live Fit For Life Boot Camp Session and Line Dancing classes. There is truly something for the entire family to enjoy!

Please note that the free Health Fair will only be taking place at the Chicago Defender Headquarters, however, we will be celebrating Lemonade Day at both locations.
