The first Saturday in May is Kentucky Derby day and it is a day when the crowd turns out in hats. The hats can be from the conservative to the outrageous. Kentucky doesn’t have anything on Pittsburgh.
On May 2, which also was the first Saturday in May, the PNC Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy held their 17th Annual Spring Hat Luncheon. Over 500 women and a few fashionable gents attended the popular luncheon this year in Riverview Park.
One of the most unusual hats was worn my Committee Co-Chair Kiya Tomlin, wife of Pittsburgh Steelers Coach, Mike Tomlin. Her hat was designed by Gina Mazzotta Millinery. Mazzotta recently designed head ware for the popular Fashion Africana fashion show.
The Hat Luncheon has raised over $6.5 million since 1999 making restoration in Pittsburgh parks possible.
