Moore Touts Major Chicago Road Construction Summer Projects

COOK COUNTY COMMISSIONER STANLEY MOORE (D-4th)
Touts Major Road Construction Projects Plan for the Summer

(Chicago, IL – May 4, 2015)  In the spring and summer of 2015, Cook County will invest $38 million on major road construction projects. These critical projects highlight Cook County’s efforts to address vital transportation infrastructure repairs that will improve safety and stimulate large scale economic development. As part of the county’s ongoing Long Range Transportation Plan, several projects will have a significant impact on the 4th District of Cook County. “Improving our transportation infrastructure is the most important factor in boosting our economy in the South Suburban region,” Cook County Commissioner Stanley Moore said.
Major projects include the reconstruction of Center Street in Harvey and the extension of Joe Orr Road in Lynwood. Other projects include much needed street and road resurfacing, sidewalk and curb improvements, viaduct improvements, and pedestrian access improvements throughout south suburban areas in Homewood, Richton Park, and Tinley Park.
“The Joe Orr Road expansion project will provide a critical unprecedented opportunity for the entire South Suburban region to foster economic growth,” Commissioner Moore said. Construction related to Joe Orr Road this summer will begin the first phase in connecting the major road between Illinois and Indiana. The new Joe Orr Road is expected to help develop a major retail corridor for the region and also facilitate the redevelopment of the Lansing Municipal Airport.
Cook County Commissioner Stanley Moore has spearheaded discussions to expand the Lansing Municipal Airport and believes the scheduled transportation projects for the upcoming construction season are necessary to compliment future projects for the airport. “Improving our Lansing Airport must become a priority. In conjunction with the extension of Joe Orr Road, we will be able to create jobs and spur large scale economic development in the Southland.”
