Friday March 20 Kicks Off 10th Annual Jazz in the Gardens Weekend
In celebration of Women’s History Month and in conjunction with the 10th annual Jazz in the Gardens Music Festival, the City of Miami Gardens presents the 2015 Women’s Impact Conference & Luncheon, themed “There’s No ‘S’ on My Chest, But a Hero Lives Within”, Friday, March 20, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Miramar Cultural Center, 2400 Civic Center Pl, Miramar, Fla. Created in 2010, this year the Women’s Impact Conference & Luncheon features “SUPER SHE-RO” OMAROSA and will be packed with “punch” and “pow” when a dynamic slate of women join forces to share superpowers at the event in a variety of topics.

Superhero Keynote Speaker – Omarosa
The WICL keynote speaker will be modern day “SHERO” Omarosa Manigault, who captivated the country as a contestant on the first season of “The Apprentice” and is credited by many for making it the number one show on television at that time. Manigault, like many women today, juggles several lives – personal, professional, spiritual – but wears her “cape” every day and in the end gets it done with a flair! The now Rev. Omarosa, assistant pastor of the Weller Street Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles, will share words to encourage, uplift and enlighten attendees.
Out-of-Sight Speakers
Speakers will bring “oomph” and energy as they share strategies, tips, ideas, expertise and information for personal and professional empowerment and success. Sessions will focus on inspirational messages, wealth building, conversations on hair, relationships, mentoring and R&B crooner Howard Hewett and Ricky Smiley Show co-host Claudia Jordan on the popular “Is It Really a Man’s World?” panel, moderated by Emmy Award-nominated journalist and NBC-6 news co-anchor, Jawan Strader
Dee Thompson, a motivational speaker and transformational life coach will present “Purpose Never Dies,” an inspirational session including gems from her power-packed CD/DVD series of the same name.
Lynda Harris, a licensed broker and financial advisor, will present “Discover the Financial Wealth in Your Future.” She is vice president of The Henderson Financial Group and co-host of WBIZ-AM’s “Understanding Money.”
Tiffany Barnes of ILoveyourhair.com will moderate “Hair: Does It Define You?” a panel that includes on screen personality Danni Washington, Dr. Cassandra “Coach Cass” Henriquez, CEO/Founder of InspireMany.com and Tahira Wright of The Cut Life
Leading a discussion on relationships are dynamic duo Gladys Diaz and Michelle Roza, also known as The Love Twins. They are certified dating and relationship coaches and co-founders of Heart’s Desire International.
Mentorship Matters
A panel discussion about mentoring features successful women who have dedicated themselves to helping others succeed. They include:
- Tracy Wilson Mourning, mentor, designer, broadcast journalist, motivational speaker and founder of Honey Shine, Inc. a mentoring program under the Mourning Family Foundation umbrella
- Felicia Brunson of Visions of Images, who, in 2005, became the youngest city commissioner for the newly-formed City of West Park
- Marla Wilson, Executive Director of Honey Shine, Inc.
- Sharonda Stewart, creator of Sporty Mommas, a lifestyle brand that encourages moms to look, feel and do their best
- Karen Tynes, Educational Service Manager for The Miami Herald and a longtime mentor with Women of Tomorrow, a national organization that provides college scholarships to at-risk high school seniors.
The Authors Lounge
Prestigious writers will share stories and speak in an intimate setting with conference attendees. The Authors Lounge features the following:
- Lucille O’Neal, author of Walk Like You Have Somewhere to Go, President of Mothers of Professional Basketball Players Association
- Donata Joseph, motivational speaker and writer of the blog Behind Closed Doors, which chronicled a seven-year abusive relationship and her strong recovery.
- Nikki Woods, CEO of Nikki Woods Media, global visibility expert and Senior Producer of the “Tom Joyner Morning Show.”
Presiding over the day will be emcee Kalyn James, host of WPBT-TV’s “Art Loft” and host of her own web –based show “Fashion Style Miami.” In addition, poet Rebecca Butterfly Vaughns will entertain and engage the audience with insightful poetry.
