Earlier this week, Chicago event planner and former model, Teri Day lost her battle to cancer. Day was known in social circles as a great mother, a wonderful daughter and a loyal friend.
Growing up, Ms. Day was educated in the private school system. She went on to attend Drake and The University of Wisconsin- Madison majoring in broadcast and communications.
Day started her media face with Howard Simmons Studio and was recruited by Suzanne Johnson Talent Agency as a print and runway model where she brought her own brand of glamour and sophistication to the apparel market. She was known for her signature, fierce walk on the runway.
She soon joined Equinox as a marketing executive building her skills on the branding and event side. Day launched her event planning company, Inner Circle entertainment and along with her business partner and friend, Kenny Johnson created the signature event, ‘Sipping on Sunday.’ Sipping on Sunday became one of Chicago’s premiere events featuring local and national entertainment, including Chico DeBarge, Zzaje’ and R&B singer Terisa Griffin.
Griffin comments on Day’s contribution to the Chicago entertainment community, “I remember how thrilled I was when Teri and Kenny first contacted me for Sipping on Sunday. She brought beautiful Black people together to network through entertainment. She was a wonderful spirit from the moment I met her until the last time we spoke. I will miss her smile and grace.”
Mother of two beautiful children, Ryan and Payton- she was a devoted and loving mother, in which her world revolved around them. Friends said she loved spending time with her family and cooking, especially during the holidays.
Day was a charter member of the Lake Shore Chapter of Jack and Jill of America and held many positions as a member where she served on several committees. Her professionalism and attention to detail was quickly recognized, and she was appointed to regional and national committees.
