Restauranteur Strikes Gold in Detroit Area!

KOLA LOGOThe month of January is a month of celebration for popular Metro Detroit–based
South African and Caribbean eatery Kola Restaurant and Ultra Lounge. The restaurant celebrates the one-year anniversary of its Farmington Hills digs. Restaurateur and businessman Ime Ekpenyong says his 120-seat restolounge and bar ended 2014 on a high note as it poured its first glass of champagne to celebrate the New Year.

“The restaurant is [my] passion and it’s nice to be able to celebrate a year successful in business. We’re going in the right direction!” he says, expectant of what 2015 holds.
The amiable joint is a cultured imagining of the beloved, yet rough-around-the-edges restaurants serving cuisine from Africa and the Caribbean. Ekpenyong’s obsessive attention to detail factored in when distinguishing Kola from other restaurants.

Decorative art lines the dining room wall, comfy lounge chairs surround wood grained tables overlooking a dancefloor and stage. While live bands add to the ambiance there’s a feeling of sophistication pulled off by only a few Metro
Detroit hotspots – Kola is one of them.

Head chef Anthony “Tony” Adegbola shares the vision as he runs the kitchen like a well-oiled machine. Even his humblest-sounding “home cooking” emerges beautifully realized, thoughtfully plated and precisely cooked. Kola’s meat-heavy mains deliver elemental pleasures; using beyond-boring ingredients
— chevon, escargot, savory soups made with smoked fish and homemade spice blends and marinades.

Chef Tony’s generous plating works in consort with crafted cocktails amid generous pours of top shelf and well-mixed Happy Hour specials. Kola’s front house management and staff are trained for customer satisfaction from server to any of the three mixologists serving custom crafted cocktails during happy hour.
Kola’s delectable fare has gone over big with patrons while its elegant selection of wine and spirits satisfy more delicate palates. There’s an array of domestic and imported brew to go with the lively gnash and entertainment.

It’s a big-hearted restaurant that does their homeland proud.
“The dream of the space was to have an international cultural destination, Metro Detroiters are ready for something exciting and different.” added Ekpenyong.
