Lifestyles Report…Simply smashing

When a new restaurant opens I want to be one of the first ones in the door. Especially if the restaurant is a part of a chain that we don’t have in Pittsburgh. By now you may have heard that Pittsburgh’s first Smashburger opened in Monroeville. The location is across from Miracle Mile and is owned by a Black man named Lee Williams. During a nice conversation we had, I found out he grew up near Homewood and graduated from Taylor Allderdice.
Now, I’m going way back with this one. I remember when the first Wendy’s opened in Pittsburgh; a few of my old friends went without me, I was upset that they got to eat the square hamburgers before I did. So when my good friend, Marva, sent me a message to head to Smashburger I was in.
I missed the media event that was held earlier in the week. We made our way there and found a pretty lengthy line. The people in front of the line were very polite and handed us menus so we could make our selections while standing in line. I decided on the Buffalo & Blue Cheese burger; it has all of the toppings that I like on a burger–Frank’s Red Hot Buffalo Sauce, blue cheese, lettuce, tomato and mayo on an egg bun. I added pickles and a side of sweet potato fries.
Marva ordered the Avocado Club–fresh avocado, Applewood smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato, ranch dressing and mayo on a multi grain bun. She added a hand–spun chocolate milk shake made with Haagen-Dazs Ice Cream. Thanks to them putting the remaining shake in one of those metal cups, I got to taste some as well. It was dee-lish-ish.
