BOARD EMERITUS AWARDEE—Charlene Newkirk and Andrew Frazier

Hill of Hope honorary co-chairs, Ann and Leon Haley, said the theme “Embracing Diversity in the Community” is fitting for the Hill District Ys as new development has begun to change the face and character of the historic Hill District, and as a result, the community is becoming and will continue to become a more diverse community in which to live. On Nov. 15, at the Marriott City Center, more than 200 gathered for the 7th annual Hill of Hope Gala. The ballroom was a kaleidoscope of colors with unique centerpieces featured at each table. After a warm welcome from Charlene Newkirk, board chair of the Thelma Lovette & Centre Avenue YMCAs, and honorary co-chairs Ann and Leon Haley, it was time to present the Hill of Hope Awards.
