DTE Energy Foundation Grant Supports Housing Programs for Veterans and Teen Moms

The DTE Energy Foundation announced a $25,000 grant to support the “Bankole Thompson Fund for Veterans and Teen Moms” at Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries (DRMM).
The fund supports two DRMM programs. The Veterans Per Diem Program in Highland Park provides transitional housing for veterans while helping them secure permanent housing. DRMM’s teen mothers’ program at Genesis House 1 provides transitional housing for up to 20 teen mothers and their children. The program helps teen mothers to secure permanent housing, obtain an education and find employment.

“DTE Energy Foundation’s contribution is not only important but crucial in ensuring stabilization in the lives of veterans and teenage mothers who are looking to rebuild their lives and that of their children,” said Bankole Thompson, editor of the Michigan Chronicle. “This donation is a good investment and is an example of good corporate social responsibility.”
Faye Alexander Nelson, vice president of Public Affairs for DTE Energy and president of the DTE Energy Foundation, added that the Foundation’s support of veterans and teen mothers is part of a broader commitment to the revitalization of the communities where we serve.
“We are pleased to support our veterans who have already given so much of themselves to keep the citizens of our country safe, and young mothers and their children, who are part of our community and who are our future,” Nelson said.
