A suburban Atlanta family man sent shockwaves reverberating throughout his Cobb County, Ga. neighborhood after he was arrested on federal child pornography charges.
Nicholas Mazza, a girls softball coach who lives in Powder Springs, Ga., was snared by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security after their monitoring of peer-to-peer networks and discovered a large number of child porn downloads to an IP address belonging to Mazza.
“It is one of the worst, heinous crimes that anyone can commit, period,” said Jack Huddleston, Mazza’s neighbor.
According to Mazza’s website, he coached girls’ softball teams around the Cobb County area for more than a decade. He also offered coaching sessions, according the website, WSB-TV reports.
Joseph Terrell said he’s been Mazza’s neighbor for two decades, but this week he noticed federal agents going in and out of Mazza’s house.
“The kids come by all the time. We had no idea something like that was going on,” said Terrell.
After being questioned, Mazza reported came clean about the fact that he viewed and saved child pornography for approximately 10 years, saying that “his child pornography preference was girls around the age of 10.”
