A new poll shows that Georgia Republican Senate candidate David Perdue is enjoying his biggest lead in over a month and has come within one point of avoiding a January runoff election against Democrat Michelle Nunn.
That same Monmouth University poll also has incumbent Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal stretching his lead over Democratic challenger Jason Carter in the gubernatorial race.
Here’s the breakdown:
For Senate
David Perdue — 49 percent
Michelle Nunn — 41 percent
Amanda Swafford — 3 percent

For Georgia governor:
Nathan Deal — 48 percent
Jason Carter — 42 percent
Andrew Hunt — 5 percent
The sample is 55 percent female. There is no racial breakdown in the polling memo, but on Twitter the pollster reported the black sample is 25 percent.
