Before he began his strange and curious relationship with Viola Davis in ABC’s “How To Get Away With Murder,” British actor Alfred Enoch was perhaps best known as Harry Potter’s Quidditch teammate and rival for Ginny Weasley’s love, Dean Thomas.
Back then, he was known as Alfie Enoch, the Westminster, London-born son of English actor William Russell and Brazilian physician Balbina Gutierrez.
He was featured in seven of the eight “Harry Potter” films – including the first one in 2001, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” – before moving on to star in several plays throughout London and eventually settling in the fertile hills of Shondaland.
“I arrived to shoot the pilot in Philly, and it was all completely new to me,” Enoch told the TCA in July. He said his experience coming from a different country came in handy for his portrayal of totally-overwhelmed law student Wes Gibbins.
“It was nice having that mirror. And it was, to some degree, amusing to me to see that,” Enoch said. But when it comes to the reason he wanted the part, he affirms, “the real attraction is the sophistication and the depth of the work.”
