Hurricane man pleads guilty in racial threat case

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) – A Hurricane man is pleading guilty to threatening to kill neighbors who were part of an interracial family.
Federal prosecutors say 71-year-old Robert Keller wrote a note in December threatening to kill two White neighbors if they didn’t force a Black relative to leave their apartment complex.
Court documents show Keller pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of violating the fair housing act and prosecutors dropped a second count.
Acting U.S. Attorney for Utah Carlie Christen says in a statement the charges are a horrifying reminder that racism still exists in some communities.
Keller faces up to a year in prison and a fine of up to $100,000 at a sentencing scheduled for Dec. 1. His attorney did not immediately return a call for comment.
