CBS Pulls Rihanna’s NFL Intro for Good After She Trashes Network

Singer Rihanna attends the Alexander Wang fashion show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2015 at Pier 94 on September 6, 2014 in New York City
CBS’s decision to yank Rihanna’s intro to its inaugural broadcast of “Thursday Night Football” last week was explained by the network as too frivolous to follow the serious tone of its pre-game show covering the Ray Rice controversy.
But, if you ask social media, CBS likely felt awkward presenting an artist whose own dealing with domestic abuse had been so public. And from the looks of her angry Tweet to CBS Sports, Rihanna believes her past incident with Chris Brown had everything to do with their decision.
She cursed out the network for pulling her intro, which featured her singing a rendition of “Run This Town,” her 2009 hit with Jay-Z and Kanye West.
“F*** you,” she wrote in the tweet. “Y’all are sad for penalizing me for this.”

Hours after that tweet, CBS Sports announced there would be changes in future broadcasts as well, reports USA Today.
“Beginning this Thursday, we will be moving in a different direction with some elements of our Thursday Night Football open,” said CBS senior vice president of communications Jen Sabatelle in a statement. “We will be using our newly created Thursday Night Football theme music to open our game broadcast.”
Until Tuesday’s announcement, the singer’s opener had been scheduled to appear on Thursday Night Football for the rest of the season.
