July in Pittsburgh can only mean one thing, FROGS Week.  The FROGS (Friendly Rivalry Often Generates Success) were founded in 1910 for the primary purpose of socializing and having a good time. For years this prestigious group of men has gathered together for dining, dancing, days at the races and an annual picnic.
On July 12 at the Edgewood Country Club, in Churchill, FROGS Week kicked off with a black tie even. After mixing and mingling, guests were directed to the main ballroom for dinner and dancing. FROGS President Clarence Curry welcomed the group while Ted Roberts, social chairman and chaplain, gave the invocation.  After dinner Dr. Edmund Effort introduced his wife, Elaine Effort, who served as mistress of ceremony. Paul Harper, Antoine Smalls, Ahmed Martin and Chuck Franklin IV were the newest gents welcomed into the organization. Tom Motley served as formal chairperson and gave closing remarks which gave the cue for the Variety Band to get busy. Roland Ford, the line-dancing dynamo, was on hand to instruct on the newest line dances.
The week included a game night on July 17 and a picnic on July 20.
