    ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith

As an irate legion of Stephen A. Smith detractors — predominantly women — applauded his suspension for warning women not to provoke domestic violence, Whoopi Goldberg actually came to his defense and lent credence to what he argued on ESPNs “First Take” on Friday.

The controversial comments first arose during Smith’s and co-host Skip Bayless’ debate about the surprisingly light two-game suspension for Baltimore Ravens’ running back Ray Rice after he knocked his then-fiancé unconscious after a violent argument in an elevator.

Goldberg, “The View’s” surviving host posted this message on social media, seemingly backing up Smith’s admonishment to women to quit playing an active role in domestic violence situations, including exhibiting physical and violent behavior themselves.

After being roundly criticized for his views on Friday afternoon on social media, including an ESPN colleague and other females in the journalism industry, Smith was suspended from all ESPN outlets for one week. He appeared very contrite in a taped message just prior to Monday’s popular debate show “First Take.”

After his suspension was announced by the sports network, Goldberg posted the above message.

Do you agree or disagree with Goldberg’s message?
