Remy Ma Talks Time Served Behind Bars, Papoose and Lack of Female MC’s in Rap

remy-maRemy Ma’s time in prison is coming to an end as she looks to taste freedom in this coming week.
Reflecting on her stint behind bars, the rapstress chatted with Power 105.1′s Angie Martinez about changes she’s made, her marriage to fellow rapper Papoose and reentering the rap game.
Although prison affects people in different ways that are locked up, for Remy admitted that an “emphatic life change” was something that didn’t happen to her. Nevertheless, the entertainer noted how mature she became during her time in.
“I grew up a lot, like I look at things differently,” she told Martinez. “Looking back and looking at everything else, I was able to see a lot of things.
“I was really crazy,” continued Remy. “You get to see from [different perspectives] when you’re stuck in one spot and you can’t just go as you please and do things as you please…it’s the simple things, you can’t take a shower when you want to. You can’t make something to eat when you want, you can’t wear your hair how you want.”
Remy’s comments come as she prepares for the end of her time in prison. According to reports, the entertainer was convicted of assault and other charges in 2008 after shooting a friend in the stomach. Despite the prison life, Remy did find love as she married her boyfriend Papoose, who has been more than willing to take his marital vow to be with his wife “for better or worse to heart.
“I’m still shocked,” she said. “He’s an official dude. He held me down better than my best friends that I grew up with and family members.”
As for making her return to the rap scene, Remy mentioned making peace with Fat Joe as she revealed that she has attracted the attention of a quite a few record labels, who are interested in signing her to a deal. “I didn’t want to sign anything as major as a deal from here,” Remy said. “A lot of things have changed since I’ve been gone, so I wanted to come home and do that.”
Among those changes is the lack of female rappers on the scene. Aside from Nicki Minaj, Remy noted that female rap is in need of a few more faces to consistently represent.

“Nick has always been a supporter,” said Remy. “I love what she’s done, she’s done wonderful things for females but…I just wish there was more of them [female rappers]. I don’t know what they’re doing, they’re letting these guys take over.”
